IPM 2016 Test analysis
The
test was of 100Q (60 Maths, 40 English) and of 120 min duration. Marking scheme
was +4 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer. There was no sectional time
limit
Maths
Similar
to 2015, questions were of moderate-high difficulty level. This section tested strong math fundamentals taught
till 11/12th standard across topics. Someone who has taken maths in
12th standard had a clear advantage. On screen calculator was provided

Good attempt would be 25-30
Q with 85% accuracy. Good score in this section will be 80+ marks. 100+ score will
be quite good
English
Predictably,
English was an easier section. There were no tricky or unexpected question
types. Difficulty level was easy-moderate. Fill in the blanks and vocabulary
were given high importance

NPAT 2016
analysis – Day 2
NPAT
2016 was a test of 120 Min and 150 questions with three sections in that order
– English (50), Maths (50 Q), Logical Reasoning (50Q). Marking scheme was +4,
-1
Day 2 story – 15 May
·
Similar to Day 1, English was the easiest section &
should have been attempted first. There were no unexpected or confusing
questions. RC passages were also easy and scoring. Overall attempt and accuracy
would have gone up with this section. Hence doing it first would have boosted
student’s morale to move on to next section
·
Logical Reasoning was the last section, but was
simpler and should have been attempted next. This section was dominated by DI
caselets, Data Sufficiency, series completion & selection criteria.
Selecting correct questions was the key, since long questions had just one
question corresponding to them
·
Quant was tougher & spread across topics.
Concentration was around trigonometry, P&L & geometry (4-5 Q each).
This was followed by venn diagram, probability, sequences/series, TSD and
quadratic equations (3 Q each)

CLAT 2016 – Easy paper with higher cut-offs
CLAT 2016, a sigh of relief and a big respite
after AILET-2016 J Thats the best way to describe CLAT 2016. This was supposedly one of the easiest CLAT
papers in recent past. It resembled CLAT 2014 in terms of difficulty level. Average
number of serious attempts was 140+ for many. Good students seriously attempted
170-185 questions. With 80-85% accuracy, it comes to a score of 145-155
Section
wise feedback
English with Comprehension
This section had one RC passage and other questions were spread
across Grammar, spellings, fill in the blanks (Prepositions, sentence
completion, word usage), Idioms & Phrases, and legal maxims
Logical
Reasoning
This section was easy to moderate level.
Critical Reasoning had 15 questions and Analytical Reasoning had 25 questions. LR
section consisted of matrix arrangement, puzzles, family Tree, directions,
coding & decoding, series, set based questions etc. CR included course of
action, strong & weak arguments, syllogisms etc.
Elementary Maths
Maths had a few
tricky and calculation intensive and hence time consuming questions. They were
spread across topics like percentages, ratio proportion, algebra, probability, geometry
etc. Tricky questions were better solved using elimination of options, using
intelligent guessing
General Knowledge
Around 40 questions appeared from Current Affairs & around
10 from Static GK. Questions appeared
from favourite areas like Politics, finance & economy, sports, social and legal
affairs
Legal Aptitude
This section had fairly straight forward 35 Legal Reasoning
questions. Principle-Facts questions were one liner (Mostly
torts/contracts/criminal law) and 15 questions belonged to Legal Knowledge
(Mainly constitution, followed by Landmark judgments, famous judges and
personalities). This was one of the easiest sections as the questions were
straight forward.
Since average attempts have been higher,
accuracy and higher LA score will matter. In case of equal total score, LA will
be a tie-breaker. Cut-off for top 3 NLUs are likely to be in 150+ range
Here are likely CLAT 2016 cut-offs for top NLUs
·
Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata – 150+
·
Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Jodhpur – 140-150
·
Raipur, Lucknow, Patiala, Patna –
130-140
